Position Overview:
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Food Service Director. The Food Service Director will oversee all aspects of the school district's food service operations, ensuring that nutritious and appealing meals are provided to students, staff, and faculty. This individual will manage food service staff, oversee budgeting and menu planning, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead, manage, and evaluate all aspects of food service operations for the district, including meal preparation, service, and sanitation.

Develop and implement strategies to promote healthy eating habits and meet the dietary needs of students.

Supervise and provide training to food service staff to ensure efficient and effective operations.

Manage and monitor food service budgets, including ordering, inventory control, and cost containment.

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as state and federal guidelines (e.g., USDA meal requirements).

Collaborate with nutritionists and dietitians to develop balanced and appealing menus.

Communicate regularly with school administrators, parents, and other stakeholders regarding food service issues and improvements.

Monitor and assess customer satisfaction, addressing concerns as necessary to improve service quality.

Stay current on industry trends, government regulations, and best practices in food service management.

Maintain accurate records related to meal counts, inventory, and financial reports.

Properly market the district’s catering services in accordance with district initiatives to improve the financial performance of the Food Services Program
The Preferred candidate will have:

Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.

At least 5 years of experience in food service management, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.

Knowledge of food safety standards, nutrition, and dietary guidelines for school-aged children.

Experience with processing Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications, and direct certifications in the School Lunch System

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage budgets, resources, and staff effectively.

Experience working in a school or educational setting is a plus.

Certification in food safety and sanitation preferred (ServSafe or equivalent).

The ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Minimum Qualifications
a.) Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent educational experience, with a major in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, restaurant management, hospitality management, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or related fields; OR
b.) Bachelor's degree in any academic major and State recognized certificate for school nutrition directors; OR
c.) Bachelor's degree in any academic major with at least two years of relevant school nutrition program experience; OR
d.) Associates degree, or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, restaurant management, hospitality management, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or related fields and at least two years of relevant school nutrition program experience.
Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the Food Service Director position. Appointment will be provisional, pending the results of the Civil Service Exam. Exam date TBD.
