The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking (3) three reliable and dedicated individual to serve in a dual role as School Bus Driver and Food Service Worker. This is a great opportunity to support our students both in the school buildings and on the road, while maintaining a consistent, family-friendly schedule.
Food Service Worker Responsibilities (7:00 AM – 11:00 AM):
This position involves responsibility for assisting in the routine preparation and serving of meals, and for the cleaning of kitchen equipment. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher level employee in the food service staff. The incumbent does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities
- Sets tables;
- Heats precooked meals;
- Cleans tables of dirty dishes;
- Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers;
- Cleans vegetables;
- Prepares meal trays;
- Polishes silverware, cleans trays, dining room tables and chairs;
- Cleans dish and linen closets;
- Cleans dining room;
- Washes dishes by hand or machine;
- Assists in the preparation of food as directed;
- Performs a variety of related tasks as required.
Full performance knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics
Working knowledge of the proper methods of serving food; working knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning materials and equipment; ability to follow oral and written directions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
School Bus Driver Responsibilities (2:00 PM – 4:30 PM):
This position involves responsibility for the operation of a school bus in the transporting of children to and from school related activities. A School Bus Driver is responsible for the safety and conduct of the children who are passengers. The work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway allowing the operator in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities
- Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions;
- Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip;
- Reports any operational defect to immediate superior;
- Informs children about safety practices;
- Maintains orderly conduct of children on bus;
- Keeps interior and exterior of vehicle clean and neat;
- May be required to operate a station wagon or other similar vehicle;
- May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle;
- Maintains records of mileage, routes, times and incidents;
- Prepares and maintains maps of routes and pick-up points;
- Performs a variety of related duties as required.

Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under difficult driving and road conditions; ability to make minor repairs to the vehicle; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with children and command their respect; mechanical aptitude.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of Certified Driver’s License with a “S” School Bus endorsement at time of appointment. Drivers must be at least 21 years of age and must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.
Hours & Pay:
- Food Service Worker: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM (4 hours daily)
- School Bus Driver: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM (2.5 hours daily)
- School-year schedule (no nights, weekends, or holidays)
- Hourly rates per the current CSEA contract
