Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our Achieve Program team. This program provides a structured and supportive setting where students can build academic skills, develop social-emotional growth, and increase independence. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the lead teacher and program staff to create a positive, engaging environment that supports individualized learning and student achievement. This position also includes supporting students on the school bus during dismissal to ensure a safe and successful transition home.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide direct support to students with varying disabilities, helping them access the curriculum and daily routines.
- Foster a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes independence.
- Collaborate with therapists, specialists, and other staff to meet student needs.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- NYS Teaching Assistant Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with children with special needs, preferably in a school setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student success.
- Knowledge of behavioral management strategies is a plus.
