Teaching Assistant/Bus Monitor
Location: O'Rourke Middle School
Hours: 7.25 hours/day

Position Overview:
O’Rourke Middle School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team (7.25 hrs/day). In this role, you will be assigned to support students with unique learning needs throughout the school day. This includes providing individualized support within special education as well as on the school bus during an afternoon bus run. You will work closely with the classroom teacher to create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment that promotes the student’s academic, social, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing the student’s individualized education plan (IEP).
  • Provide one-to-one support to help the student engage with the curriculum and daily activities.
  • Reinforce instructional goals and support behavior strategies to ensure a safe and productive environment.
  • Collaborate with therapists and other specialists to support the student’s needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.

Additional Duties:
This position includes responsibilities as a school bus monitor, which requires riding the school bus with students at dismissal to help ensure their safety and appropriate behavior. Candidates must be able to consistently fulfill this responsibility as part of the daily schedule.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of behavioral management techniques is a plus.
  • Teaching Assistant Certification or willingness to obtain one.
