Library Media Specialist — 1.0 FTE, Probationary
Location: Pashley Elementary School
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Library Media Specialist to join our team at Pashley Elementary School. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), probationary position for a New York State–certified educator who is passionate about fostering literacy, inquiry, and a love of reading in young learners.
The ideal candidate will create an engaging library environment that promotes reading, research skills, and digital literacy, while collaborating with classroom teachers to support curriculum and student achievement.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Managing and maintaining the school library collection, including selection, purchasing, organization, and circulation of materials, as well as strategic weeding and aligning the collection with grade-level curriculum.
- Planning and delivering library instruction that supports literacy, research, and information fluency skills
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate library resources and technology into instruction
- Promoting a love of reading through book talks, displays, and school-wide literacy initiatives
- Supporting students in developing digital citizenship and responsible technology use skills
- Assisting students and staff in locating and evaluating information resources
- Maintaining an organized, welcoming, and inclusive library environment
- Overseeing library technology and supporting its effective use
- Participating in school and district initiatives and ongoing professional development
- Planning and executing Enrichment programming
- Delivering weekly instruction for all grades K-5 in the skills and competencies detailed in the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum and the NYS Computer Science & Digital Fluency standards.
Qualifications:
- Valid New York State certification as a School Library Media Specialist (required)
- Master’s degree in Library Science or related field (preferred)
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment
