Per Diem Driver Education Instructor (Classroom & Behind-the-Wheel)

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and dependable Per Diem Driver Education Instructor to join our Driver Education Program. This per diem position provides both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training to high school students, helping them develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become safe, responsible drivers.
The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching, committed to student safety, and dedicated to creating a positive learning environment while preparing students to become responsible licensed drivers.
Position Responsibilities
Throughout each semester, students receive:

24 hours of classroom instruction
-
18 hours of in-car observation
-
6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction
The Per Diem Driver Education Instructor will:
- Teach New York State Driver Education curriculum in accordance with NYS DMV and NYS Education Department requirements.
- Instruct students on traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and safe vehicle operation.
- Provide engaging classroom lessons using effective instructional strategies, visual aids, and technology.
- Deliver behind-the-wheel instruction while ensuring the safety of students at all times.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and program records.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable NYS DMV regulations and district policies.
- Collaborate with program staff and guest speakers, as appropriate.
- Demonstrate strong organization, communication, classroom management, and time management skills.
Qualifications
- Valid MV-283 Driver and Traffic Safety Education Instructor Certificate (required)
- Valid New York State Teaching Certificate (required)
- Valid New York State driver's license with a clean driving record and a minimum of 10 years of licensed driving experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous Driver Education teaching experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal, instructional, and communication skills
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment
Schedule
This is a per diem position that follows the Driver Education Program schedule:
- Fall Semester: 16-week program
- Spring Semester: 16-week program
- Summer: 6-week program
During the school year, both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction are conducted after regular school hours. The summer program is held during the morning hours.
