English Teacher - Middle School

Middle School English Teacher 1.0 FTE Probationary

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a Middle School English Teacher. We are looking for culturally responsive educators who inspire a love of learning and motivate students to achieve their highest potential.

Job Summary:

As a middle school English teacher, you will guide students in mastering the English language through reading, writing, and analyzing both literature and informational texts. Additionally, you will help students develop their writing skills in argumentation, narrative, and literary analysis. You will foster literacy development as a continuous process, equipping students with the tools to navigate complex texts and become lifelong learners.

We are looking for dynamic educators with a 7-12 English certification who can create a supportive and engaging learning environment. By using diverse teaching methods, you will help students understand the rules of reading, writing, and speaking in English. You will also monitor their progress through assignments and exams, providing constructive feedback to foster growth. You will integrate evidence-based strategies and understand the interconnectedness of reading and writing skills.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Teach lessons reflecting the skills necessary to master the Next Generation NYS ELA Standards for 7th and 8th grade as well as an elective in 6th grade.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

  • Incorporate high-impact practices into instruction.

  • Collaborate with members of the English Department and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Maintain open communication with families to keep them informed of student progress.

  • Prepare students for district and state assessments, as well as college and career readiness.

  • Utilize technology effectively, including the Google suite.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Apply the Science of Reading to foster students' reading comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

  • Address the unique needs and challenges of adolescent readers, tailoring instruction to support their continued literacy development.

  • Critically evaluate current teaching practices and adopt evidence-based strategies

School Psychologist

School Psychologist

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a School Psychologist dedicated to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth of our students. This position requires the application of problem-solving techniques, the administration and interpretation of assessments, the use of data to guide decisions, and the implementation of evidence-based interventions. The School Psychologist will collaborate closely with educators, families, and other professionals to foster safe, positive, and inclusive learning environments for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to address the academic and social-emotional needs of students.

  • Administer comprehensive student assessments, including initial and re-evaluations (psychoeducational evaluations).

  • Serve as a Sub-Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chairperson for assigned school buildings.

  • Actively participate in and co-facilitate the building-level Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Team.

  • Administer behavioral screenings, conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with social workers and teachers.

  • Provide necessary information to external providers and agencies as requested.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities to build effective relationships with students, parents, and school staff.

  • Proficiency in assessing students' psychological and educational needs using a variety of methods and tools.

  • Demonstrated crisis management skills, including the ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.

  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state regulations related to special education and student rights.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure adherence to regulatory timelines.

  • Empathy and a genuine commitment to promoting students' academic and emotional success.

  • Solid understanding of child development, learning processes, and behavior management strategies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, Certificate of Advanced Study, or Doctoral degree in School Psychology.

  • New York State Licensure/Certification in School Psychology.

  • Previous experience working within school environments.
