Middle School English Teacher 1.0 FTE Probationary

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a Middle School English Teacher. We are looking for culturally responsive educators who inspire a love of learning and motivate students to achieve their highest potential.

Job Summary:

As a middle school English teacher, you will guide students in mastering the English language through reading, writing, and analyzing both literature and informational texts. Additionally, you will help students develop their writing skills in argumentation, narrative, and literary analysis. You will foster literacy development as a continuous process, equipping students with the tools to navigate complex texts and become lifelong learners.

We are looking for dynamic educators with a 7-12 English certification who can create a supportive and engaging learning environment. By using diverse teaching methods, you will help students understand the rules of reading, writing, and speaking in English. You will also monitor their progress through assignments and exams, providing constructive feedback to foster growth. You will integrate evidence-based strategies and understand the interconnectedness of reading and writing skills.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Teach lessons reflecting the skills necessary to master the Next Generation NYS ELA Standards for 7th and 8th grade as well as an elective in 6th grade.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

  • Incorporate high-impact practices into instruction.

  • Collaborate with members of the English Department and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Maintain open communication with families to keep them informed of student progress.

  • Prepare students for district and state assessments, as well as college and career readiness.

  • Utilize technology effectively, including the Google suite.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Apply the Science of Reading to foster students' reading comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

  • Address the unique needs and challenges of adolescent readers, tailoring instruction to support their continued literacy development.

  • Critically evaluate current teaching practices and adopt evidence-based strategies

Senior Custodian - 2nd Shift

SENIOR CUSTODIAN

We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive atmosphere. The Burnt Hills Ballston Lake CSD is seeking a Senior Custodian for our Middle School (2nd Sift)

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This position involves responsibility for the proper cleaning, maintenance, and heating of a medium sized school building.  Work is performed in accordance with general instruction and is subject to review by a superior.  Immediate supervision may be exercised over the work of employees engaged in various custodial activities.  The incumbent does related work as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise 2nd shift custodial staff, assigning tasks and monitoring performance to ensure high standards of cleanliness and maintenance.

  • Oversee the preparation and readiness of facilities for evening community activities and events.

  • Collaborate with the head custodian to coordinate maintenance schedules, address any immediate issues, and ensure the smooth handover between shifts.

  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, coordinating with procurement as needed to support the evening shift’s requirements.

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations, addressing hazards promptly to protect staff and community members.

  • Conduct routine inspections to verify the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of facilities.

  • Train and mentor custodial staff to uphold best practices in cleaning, maintenance, and customer service.

  • Respond to any urgent maintenance requests or incidents during the evening shift, providing timely resolutions.

  • Communicate effectively with the head custodian so school staff and community members are aware of any facility-related concerns during evening events.

  • Oversee the closing of the building each school day. Before leaving, all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; good knowledge of the operation of low-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment; ability to plan and layout work; ability to supervise the work of others; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(A) One year of experience as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, painter, mechanic or other trades work;  OR

(B) Two years of experience in building cleaning and maintenance work;

(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Coach - Boys Modified Volleyball

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate Head Coach to lead our Boys Modified Volleyball Team for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in track, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement training programs that enhance athletic performance.
  • Organize and lead practices, games, and competitions.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and staff about team progress and expectations.
  • Analyze player performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with other coaches and staff to promote a cohesive athletic program.

Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience in volleyball at the high school, collegiate, or club level.
  • Strong knowledge of track rules and strategies.
  • The ability to motivate and inspire athletes of varying skill levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Candidates must hold a valid NYS Teaching certificate, NYS coaching certificate, or be willing to obtain one.
