School Monitor - Security

School Monitor – Pashley Elementary School

Work Hours: 12:30 PM – 6:00 PM (5.5 hours/day)

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking two vigilant, dependable, and student-focused School Monitors—one at Pashley Elementary School and one at Stevens Elementary School. School Monitors help maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. These positions work collaboratively with administrators and school personnel to ensure school safety procedures are followed and student conduct expectations are upheld.

Civil Service Description:

Classification: Non-Competitive 

This position involves responsibility for supervising the behavior of children in a variety of school related activities. These activities may include any of the following: guides children safely across streets and intersections; supervises children in corridors, playgrounds, school buses, locker rooms and rest rooms. The work is performed under general supervision from a teacher or other professional employee. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities

  • Guides school children safely across streets and intersections;
  • Directs school children to cross only when the traffic light is favorable;
  • Supervises the behavior of children on school buses;
  • Supervises students passing between classes, locker rooms, and on school premises immediately before and after school;
  • May be assigned responsibility for locker room supplies and equipment;
  • Assists children in lower grades with wearing apparel;
  • Assists teachers in maintaining order in classrooms and cafeterias;
  • Performs a variety of related tasks as required.

Full performance knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics

Ability to supervise the behavior of children; Working knowledge of first aid methods; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.

Teaching Assistant - RTI Program

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a qualified, student-centered Teaching Assistant to support the Response to Intervention (RTI) program at Pashley Elementary School.

Position Summary

The RTI Teaching Assistant will provide targeted academic support to students requiring additional assistance in reading and/or mathematics. Working collaboratively with interventionists, classroom teachers, and administrators, the Teaching Assistant will help implement interventions designed to improve student achievement and support academic growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supplemental academic support to students receiving reading and/or math interventions.
  • Assist with small-group instruction and targeted intervention activities.
  • Reinforce instructional concepts and strategies introduced during intervention sessions.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain intervention records as directed.
  • Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and intervention resources.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, intervention staff, and administrators to support student achievement.
  • Promote student engagement, confidence, and success in academic learning.

Qualifications

  • New York State Teaching Assistant Certification is required or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking two qualified, student-centered Teaching Assistants to support students in the STRIVE Program at Pashley Elementary School.

Position Summary

The STRIVE Teaching Assistants will support students within a self-contained special education classroom setting. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher and in collaboration with related service providers, Teaching Assistants will help students access instruction, develop independence, and achieve academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), behavior intervention plans, and classroom accommodations.
  • Provide instructional support to individual students and small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Assist students with transitions, daily routines, organization, and classroom participation.
  • Foster student independence, self-regulation, and engagement in learning activities.
  • Collaborate closely with special education teachers, related service providers, and building staff to support student success.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • New York State Teaching Assistant Certification is required or eligibility for certification.
