Position Overview:
O’Rourke Middle School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team (6.5 hrs/day). In this role, you will be assigned to support students with unique learning needs throughout the school day. You will work closely with the classroom teacher to create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment that promotes students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing the student’s individualized education plan (IEP).
  • Provide one-to-one support to help the student engage with the curriculum and daily activities.
  • Reinforce instructional goals and support behavior strategies to ensure a safe and productive environment.
  • Collaborate with therapists and other specialists to support the student’s needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of behavioral management techniques is a plus.
  • Teaching Assistant Certification or willingness to obtain one.
