The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a dependable and student-focused individual to serve as a Full-Time School Security Monitor at the High School. This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors throughout the school day.

The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.

Civil Service Description:

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for patrolling halls, corridors, lavatories, buildings and grounds to protect persons and property and to enforce school rules.  The position is intended to provide maximum security of persons and property while maintaining an atmosphere throughout the school that is conducive to the program of studies. The incumbent will establish rapport with students in order to assist them with their problems or refer them to someone on the professional staff who can help.  The work is performed under the general direction of the school principal with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments.  Does related work as required.

 TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Patrols school halls, stairwells, restrooms, courtyards, entrances, parking lots, and other parts of school buildings and grounds to protect persons and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with school rules;
  • Questions persons on school premises who are not students or staff and advises as to school rules and either directs visitors to school offices or asks them to leave;
  • Reports periodically to the principal on problems, incidents, and conditions affecting security, either orally or in writing;
  • Interacts and develops a rapport with students and the community members that utilize the building after school hours. 
  • Advises principal about potential or actual student problems concerning class-cutting, truancy, disciplinary or other school or personal problems;
  • May supervise the loading of buses and follows buses on routes or on field trips to make sure no discipline problems develop;
  • Participates in the development and implementation of district  security plans;
  • May act as liaison with local and state police agencies;

SECURITY MONITOR                         

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the problems of young adults; ability to perform the actions necessary to maintain order and insure the protection of persons and security of the school building; ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out supervision and security duties; ability to relate to, get along with and command the respect of young adults; ability to understand and carry out written or oral directions; ability to articulate the problems and concerns of students to the school administration; concern for the welfare of young adults; understanding of the value of receiving an education and ability to transmit this knowledge of students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State   registered College with an Associate’s degree and one (1)     year of experience in youth service work, recreation,  education, or any other activity involving service to or  activities with youth; OR 

(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of experience in youth service work, recreation, education, or any other activity involving service to or activities with youth, which shall have involved setting limits, enforcing rules, or applying defined sanctions;  OR

(C)  Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, possession of New York State Security Guard Certification, and two (2) years of experience in youth service work, recreation, education, or any other activity involving service to or activities with youth;  OR

Cleaner 2nd Shift - High School

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District is seeking a reliable and hardworking 2nd Shift Cleaners to maintain the cleanliness and safety of school facilities. This position plays a key role in ensuring that classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas are clean, sanitary, and ready for daily use by students and staff. 

Civil Service Job Description

Classification: Non-Competitive

This is routine work requiring the efficient performance of a variety of cleaning tasks. The work involves execution of these tasks through a well established routine. Direct supervision is received from a higher level supervisor. The incumbent does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities

  • Dusts chairs, tables desks and other furniture;
  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, toilets and sinks;
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums and waxes floors with various equipment designed for those purposes;
  • Gathers and disposes of refuse;
  • Cleans and polishes furniture;
  • Performs a variety of routine errands and cleaning tasks;
  • Performs a variety of related duties as required;
  • May use a district motor vehicle as assigned.

When Assigned to a School District

  • May clean blackboards and erasers;
  • May monitor rest rooms and report violations of non-smoking policy;
  • May use a district motor vehicle as assigned.

Full performance knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics: Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment; ability to follow oral and written direction; ability to get along well with others; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma; OR
  • Three months of building cleaning experience; OR
  • Successful completion of a job training or job readiness program.

Special Requirements

A valid New York State Driver’s License may be required, at the discretion of the appointing authority.

Position Description:
This position involves routine manual work requiring responsibility for the efficient and economic performance of semi-skilled cleaning, maintenance, and grounds keeping tasks for school buildings, grounds, and equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervisor and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Considerable leeway is permitted for the exercise of independent judgment. General supervision may be exercised over subordinate cleaning or maintenance personnel. Performs related duties as required.

 


Typical Work Activities:

  • Paints rooms and equipment; repairs furniture; performs minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs
  • Sweeps, mops, and cleans floors, stairways, and common areas
  • Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture, and equipment
  • Washes windows, walls, sinks, fixtures, and other surfaces
  • Polishes furniture and metal furnishings
  • Empties waste receptacles and disposes of trash and recycling
  • Clears snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, and driveways
  • Performs groundskeeping duties including mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, and raking leaves
  • Operates low-pressure heating systems, including firing and removing ashes when applicable
  • Delivers packages and messages throughout the building
  • Checks and monitors clocks and bells
  • Sets up and breaks down rooms with chairs, tables, and equipment for school activities and events
  • Replaces light bulbs, repairs window shades, and replenishes soap and paper products
  • When assigned evening or weekend shifts, patrols buildings and boiler rooms
  • Maintains basic records and reports as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment
  • Working knowledge of steam boiler operation and maintenance
  • Ability to use cleaning supplies and equipment efficiently and safely

  • Physical condition sufficient to meet the demands of the position

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and caring Speech Language Pathologist to join our special education team, serving students at the high school level. The successful candidate will provide speech and language therapy services, evaluate student needs, and work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, and families to support student success.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group speech-language therapy to students in accordance with IEP goals.
  • Conduct evaluations and assessments of speech, language, and communication skills.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to student needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support communication development across settings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, progress notes, and reports.
  • Participate in CSE meetings and contribute to IEP development.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Certification as a Speech and Language Disabilities (SLD) Teacher or Speech-Language Pathologist required.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in school-based settings and familiarity with IEP development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for articulation, language, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and working with students with Autism.
  • Licensure with ASHA CCC-SLP
